Beginner Old Time Fiddle with Max Evans  from All Day Breakfast Stringband – Canada

You will be introduced to the old time fiddling style. The role of the fiddle in old time music will be discussed and one or two old time fiddle tunes from the Appalachian region of the United States will be taught. Students should have a basic skills on the violin for this workshop.

Max Evans is a visual artist living out of Montréal. He has been playing old-time music for over 10 years. He became involved with the music along with his brother Frank Evans eagerly learning from the small community of musicians in Toronto as well as making regular trips to West Virginia where they learned from many different musicians steeped in the tradition.

The brothers released a duo album in 2008 (Big Meal Time!) and in 2010, along with their father, formed the KitGut Stringband releasing an album in 2011 (Rebel Raid). More recently Max Evans formed the All Day Breakfast Stringband based out of Montreal which has been an active force in their local old-time community and popular throughout Quebec and Ontario.

The band has been a finalist 2 years running in the traditional stringband contest in Clifftop WV and released its first album “Shanghai” in September of 2015.
