Welcoming American West as a guest artist at the festival.
Every so often a musical act appears that seems to exist on a continuum rather than any particular moment of time.
American West is a roots group following the well-worn path taken by Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal, and the Grateful Dead before them. This is the soundtrack to rough and rowdy lives lived long ago in El Paso, New Orleans, Memphis, and out on the Oklahoma plains—with occasional diversions to Appalachia—as the spirit of these outlaws, boozers and brawlers come tumbling into the 21st century.
Aside from the American songbook, American West plays selections from the hundreds of songs leader JW has composed over the years. From playing crawfish boils to Baton Rogue to roots festivals in New Zealand, American West brings music that folks can sing or dance to and feel in their souls.
